Jammu (J&K) June 28: Shri Amarnath Yatra-2011 began today amid tight security with first batch of 2,096 devotees leaving Jammu base camp for pilgrimage to the Holy Cave Shrine of Shri Amarnathji in South Kashmir Himalayas.

With Police keeping strict vigil, a convoy of 73 vehicles carrying the pilgrims was flagged off this morning by the Jammu & Kashmir Minister for Tourism from Shri Amarnath Base camp at Bagwatinagar Yatri Niwas, Jammu.

Chanting “Bum Bum Bolay” the devotees (comprising of 1,369 males, 421 females, 110 children and 196 Sadhus) left in 73 vehicles for Pahalgam and Baltal in Kashmir for onward journey to the Holy Shrine.

This year Kashmir had been the most peaceful for far, in the recent years and the Jammu & Kashmir state administration expects Shri Amarnath Yatra to go smoothly, although adequate security arrangements have been put in place by the government at Jammu and along the route to Shri Amarnathji Cave Shrine for the safety and security of the pilgrims.

The Jammu & Kashmir Police has also started a Reception-cum-Yatri assistance center in Jammu to facilitate smooth and easy boarding and lodging of the pilgrims. This center would take care of the devotees lodging at base camp Yatri Niwas and would also distribute booklets, pamphlets, maps and other material to the pilgrims.

The Shri Amarnath Yatra is expected to conclude on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan on August 13, 2011.
