Two day Hemis Festival in Ladakh
Leh (Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, India), July 10 - Jigmet Padma Wangchen, Heda Drukpa Kargyut Sect, inaugurated the two day annual Festival of Hemis Monastery (Gompa) in Ladakh here today to mark the birthday of Guru Padma Sambhava, 12th Gyalwang Drukchen Rinpochey.
Hemis Monastery was built in 1630 during the reign of King Sengge Namgyal. Monks of the Monastery performs mask dances depicting different god and goddesses during this annual Hemis Festival.
Chief Executive councilor Rigzin Spalban, Deputy Commissioner Tsering Angchok, GOC 14 core, Lieutenant General, R.Dastane, MLC Norbu Gyalson, P.Namgyal, Ex-MLA Tsering Samphel, Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) President Dr. Tsewang Tundup, All Ladakh Gompa Association President Geshes Konchok Namgyal, MLC Norbu Gyaltsan, Executive Councilor for Agriculture Sonam Dorjay, Executive Councilor for Tourism & Culture Gyurmet Dorjey and other were present on the occasion.
