Chief Minister Discusses Issues Pertaining to Carpet Industry
Minister says Govt open for private investment to develop the sector
Jammu, March 31 – A high level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah today discussed issues pertaining to the stress caused by the global meltdown to handicraft sector especially, carpet industry in the State, here this afternoon.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for Industries and Commerce, Mr. S. S. Slathia, Chief Secretary, Mr. S. S. Kapur, Economic Advisor to the government, Mr. Jaleel Ahmad Khan, Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Bank, Dr. Haseeb Drabu, Financial Commissioner, Planning, Mr. S. L. Bhat, Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Mr. Anil Goswami, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, Commissioner/Secretary, Finance, Mr. Sudhanshu Pandey, Commissioner, Commercial Taxes, Kh. Bashir Ahmad, other senior officers and representatives of Kashmir carpet industry.
The meeting deliberated threadbare on the problems pertaining to the carpet industry in particular and handicrafts sector in general.
The meeting felt that a comprehensive and time-bound study is required to be carried out involving artisans, traders and exporters to find out ways and means to reduce the effect of international meltdown on the vital handicraft sector in the State. |
