Shri Amarnathji Yatra-2009: With improvement in the weather conditions, Yatra resumes on both tracks.
Srinagar, July 6 – Following an improvement in the weather condition, Shri Amarnathji Yatra was resumed on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes this morning. The Yatra had to be suspended yesterday on both the routes in view of inclement weather and slippery condition of the tracks.
According to a Spokesperson of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, 3500 pilgrims left the Nunwan Base Camp and about 6090 from the Baltal Base Camp for the Holy Cave Shrine today morning for paying their obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum. He said that another batch of 2217 pilgrims left from Jammu to the Nunwan and Baltal Base Camps this morning.
The Spokesperson further stated that 4638 Yatris performed darshan at the Holy Cave Shrine yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Shrine Board evacuated three more critically ailing Yatris to the Baltal Base Camp Hospital in the last 48 hours. Ms. Gayatri Devi, 27, daughter of Mr. Bishen Dass, resident of Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi, was heli-lifted from Sheshnag to the Baltal Base Camp Hospital on 4th July after she had fallen seriously ill. Mr. Shekhar Chand Ashoty, 68, son of Mr. Sukhan Lal, resident of Jabalpur, suffering from acute asthma, was evacuated from Panjtarni to Baltal by helicopter on 5th July. Likewise, Mr. Abi Narang, 25, son of Mr. Jai Dayal Narang, resident of Faridabad, Haryana, was also airlifted from Panjtarni to Baltal Base Camp Hospital on 5th July after he had fallen unconscious.
