Srinagar-Leh road to open for light vehicles from April 16 '2010
Srinagar [Kashmir], April 13- Minister for Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon alongwith MLA from Jammu & Kashmir Zanskar Feroz Ahmad Khan, District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal, Chief Engineer, BEACON and HIMMANK inspected the condition of Srinagar-Leh road at Zojila. At Zero point, the Minister and other authorities were received by CEO, Kargil Hill Development Council Khan and others.
During the meeting it was decided that the road will be thrown open for light vehicles from April 16, 2010. However, all type of vehicles will be allowed on this road only from April 20, 2010.
It was also decided that the vehicles from Kargil to Srinagar shall cross Sonamarg upto 9 am while the vehicles from Sonamarg to Kargil shall cross Gumri upto 10 am. These timings will be in force from April 16 to April 19, 2010.
Similarly, all the vehicles coming from Leh, Ladakh to Srinagar, Kashmir from April 20, 2010 have to cross Gumri upto 10 am while the vehicles from Sonamarg to Leh shall cross Gumri from 11 am to 3 pm.
After 3 pm, no vehicle will be allowed to ply on the road as the road has to be taken up by BEACON authorities for improvement and upgradation purposes.
Mr. Qamar Ali Akhoon expressed his gratitude to the BEACON and HIMMANK authorities for throwing the highway open one month earlier. |
