International World Tourism Day observed in Srinagar, Kashmir
Srinagar (Kashmir), September 27- To mark International World Tourism Day (IWTD), the Minister of State for Tourism, Housing & Urban Development, Mr N. A. Wani this afternoon planted a sapling in the lush green lawns of SKICC.
Director SKICC, Director Tourism Kashmir and other senior officers of Tourism and SKICC were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that planting of a sapling serves as a gesture to correlate the significance of environment to tourism. He reiterated the importance of tourism to the economy of the State, adding that massive infrastructure development is on to cater the tourism influx to the State. The Minister hoped that the tourism sector will revive itself and achieve the glory of past days. He said that as soon as law and order situation improves in the valley, the government would take necessary measures for bringing back the confidence of tourists at national and international level.
Emphasising the importance of tourism potential in the State, Director SKICC, Dr. Qasba said that Jammu and Kashmir is the important tourism destination in South Asia. He said SKICC serves as a Centre for convention tourism and efforts are being made to promote the concept of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Events) in a big way. The Director said that SKICC is focusing in a big way for getting into the Convention Tourism Business and in this direction Indian Convention Promotion Bureau (ICPB) has already in its 6th meeting, Incentives, Conventions and Events Conclave held at Bangalore has decided to hold its next conclave meeting at Srinagar. |
