Colorful Procession marks 2nd Day of
Navratra Festival at Katra, Jammu
Katra (Jammu), October 10 - A colorful procession comprising of holy palanquin of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji, attractive tableaux depicting varied shades of rich cultural heritage and the folk troupes attired in their traditional dresses marked the beginning of the 2nd day of Nine day Navratra Festival here last evening .

The Nine day Navratra Festival organized by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra and State Tourism Department in collaboration with District Administration Reasi and local organizations at holy town Katra took off on Friday last. Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation who was the special guests on the occasion lit the sacred Jyoti at Asia Crossing Katra, the venue of starting of the procession. The procession after passing through main bazaars of the town finally culminated at Government Higher Secondary School, Katra. Enroute, devotees, local and those coming from other parts of the country were seen showering petals on the procession and raising slogans in praise of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji. A fancy dress and painting competition was organized at Government Higher Secondary School, Katra in which students of various schools of the town and its adjoining areas including Govt. Higher Secondary School, Govt. Girls High School, Govt. Middle School, Shishu Niketan, Trikuta Higher Secondary School and Govt High School, Agar Jitto participated. The Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Reasi, who was the chief guest on the occasion, inaugurated the competition by lighting a traditional lamp.
To educate the masses about the various schemes of the government, the different government departments have put up departmental stalls in the premises of Government Higher Secondary School, Katra. An exhibition -cum-sale of Handicrafts products organized by the department of Handicraft, Jammu is also attracting large crowds . The exhibition is an effort to showcase the rich and diverse hand made artifacts of Jammu and Kashmir ranging from hand embroidered shawls, stapple embroidery, phoolkari items, wood works, bamboo products, calico printing, paper mashie, woolen and silk carpets etc,
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has made adequate arrangements for the comfortable pilgrimage at Katra and enroute Bhawan.
