Helicopter Service to Shiv Khori Shrine Launched
Reasi (Jammu), October, 13 - Divisional Commissioner, Jammu who is also the Chairman of Shri Shivkhori Shrine Board (SSKSB) Dr. Pawan Kotwal inaugurated the Helicopter Service for pilgrims to Shri Shivkhori Shrine last evening.
The Divisional Commissioner was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner (Vice Chairman, SSKSB) Reasi, Mr. P.K. Pole who convened and implemented the project. Also accompanying was SSP, Reasi, Mr. Anand Jain to oversee the security arrangements, the flight was by a Deccan Helicopter. Deccan Charter Limited (DCL) which is also flying to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, had only last week been formally selected to undertake the Helicopter service by the SSKSB authorities after following government procedures.
The service will immensely benefit the pilgrims who in the past were unable to visit due to the long distance and difficult road condition from Katra onwards.
The one-way fare from Katra to Shivekhori Shrine Cave helipad is estimated to be around Rs.4,500/- and the flying time to the Shrine from Katra is expected to be 18-20 minutes one way. The Shri Shivkhori Shrine Board management has already identified place for helipad, for which work is under way. The identified place is enough to provide good passenger lounge and the other connected services. The entire work is estimated to be completed in stage in three months. Helicopter charters would commence very soon.
Pilgrims to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine who have three hours time available with them will easily be able to now perform darshan of the Holy Lord Shivalingum at Shiv Khori.
The chairman also directed the officers to get the feasibility survey done for having Gandolia (Rope way) for helipad at Shree Shivkhori to Cave of Lord Shiva. He also performed darshan of holi Shrine and inspected the five storey building and Yogshala.

Famous cave shrine of Shivkhori situated in district Reasi of Jammu & Kashmir near Katra depicts the natural formation of shivlingum. It is one of the most respected cave shrines of Lord Shiva in the region. The Holy Cave is more then 150 meters long & houses four feet high Svayambhu Lingum, which is constantly bathed in a milky lime fluid dripping from the ceiling. The cave is full of natural impression and images of various Hindu Deities. That is why Shivkori is known as “Home of God”.
The Shiv Khori Shrine is situated amidst lush green mountains at 3.5 Kms tracking distance from Ransoo, the base camp of Holy Shrine of Shiv Khori Ransoo( Tehsil Reasi) and is at a distance of 85 kms from Katra ( the base camp of Holy Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi) and 110 Kms from Jammu.
