Sixth day of Navratra Festival Celebrations
Katra (Jammu), October 14- As part of the ongoing Singing Contents during Navratra Festival-2010, Ajay Kumar of Amritsar, Chandan Lalotra of Jammu were adjudged first and second winners while as Suman- Asha of Jammu, Karanveer of Amritsar and Apporva of Jammu jointly shared third prize in the All India Devotional Song Competition being organized at Yog Ashram, Katra during the sixth Navartra, last evening.
Minister of State for Co-Operatives, Finance and Planning, Dr. Manhor Lal Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion today. Extending his greeting to the people on the auspicious Navratras, the Minister prayed for peace and prosperity of the Jammu & Kashmir state and nation. He said Navratra Festival at Katra is gaining popularity at national level and also a best way to make familiar the visiting pilgrims from within and out side the country about our rich and diverse cultural heritage. Earlier, an impressive Shoba Yatra- cum- cultural procession was taken out from the Asia Crossing which after passing through the main bazaars and other locations of the Katra town culminated at GHSS, Katra.
Cultural programmes by the Songs & Drama Division at Government Higher Secondary School, All India Devotional Song Competition at Shri Yog Ashram, Religious discourses at Raghunath Mandir, Cultural programmes by the students and Exhibition stalls by various departments are other main highlights of the Navratra Festival which are attracting thousands of devotees and locals.
Likewise celebrations of Navratras are in full swing in all parts of district Udhampur where people are paying their obeisance at different shrine of Goddess Durga. At Pingala Mata Shrine, situated at a hillock in village Pinger of Tehsil, Ramnagar is also witnessing huge rush of devotees. Cultural events like Bhaint and Dance competitions are being organized at Ramngar town every evening where a large number of school children are taking part.
